I think everyone was in shock when the murders of Rob Reiner and his wife hit the news.
I will be the first person to tell you that I did not like the man, but I would never wish death on anyone, especially a death that came in such a brutal manner.
As it turns out, the tragedy that befell the Reiners was not completely unexpected.
On Sunday afternoon, the wires exploded with the news that two bodies matching the ages of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found dead inside their home, discovered by their daughter.
The bodies were reportedly brutally stabbed and had been in place for some time before their discovery.
Officials had not yet confirmed their identities, but actor Billy Crystal, who was one of Reiner’s best friends, had been spotted leaving the home looking like a ghost, so it was pretty clear what had happened there.
Eventually, authorities confirmed that the Reiners were dead and that their son, Nick, was a person of interest in the case.
As the hours passed, details of the Reiners' final hours started to emerge, and it was revealed that he had been at a holiday party at the home of Conan O’Brien.
Nick was also at the party, and father and son reportedly got into a huge fight, which left many attending upset, stating that the younger Reiner was “freaking” everyone out.
It was later reported that Nick was randomly walking up to the many stars at the party, asking them, “What’s your name? What’s your last name? Are you famous?”
There were also pictures of Bill Hader, an actor-comedian, whose most recent project was It Chapter Two, nervously making phone calls, having been asked those questions by Nick. Nick was reportedly asked to leave after continuing to pester other partygoers.
It later emerged that one of the stars in attendance at O'Brien's party had talked to Rob about his son Nick.
The anonymous star reportedly told him, “I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me.”
Word apparently traveled fast about those final spoken words, which made the scenario all the more devastating for those who loved the late couple.
Politics aside, this is just a horrific event that I would never wish on anyone. I simply cannot imagine the final thoughts that were going through Rob and Michele Reiner's heads as they allegedly fell victim to their son in such a brutal fashion.
