There was a time when I really thought Candace Owens was going to be something special in this country.
Unfortunately, as a black female conservative, she was pummeled by the left, and time and again, when that happens, we often see such personalities make a hard-right lunge, right into the world of conspiracy theories.
Even though Owens used to work with Charlie Kirk and everyone at Turning Point USA (TPUSA), she fired out some conspiracy theories on his death, which Erika Kirk hoped to bury with a meeting, but that apparently did not happen.
I have followed Owens from her very beginning, and I remember an earlier report in which I literally said that this woman could be the first black woman president at some point.
She was brilliant when she first hit the scene, but the attacks took their toll, and she started to go down the rabbit hole, almost as though she was always trying to prove herself as a conservative, to the point that she had to be extreme in her positions.
When Charlie Kirk died, Owens spun up all kinds of theories, including that the assassination was being covered up at TPUSA, likely for financial reasons.
Then Megyn Kelly brokered a meeting between the two to clear the air. Kelly has made appearances in Kirk’s absence at TPUSA events and has been friends with Owens for quite some time. She explained, “[Owens] and I actually have only gotten closer over the past couple of months as people try to make me attack her.”
Erika Kirk was very upset over the many conspiracy theories that were flying around, especially some of those that Owens was pushing.
This meeting, in my opinion, was a very good thing, as I had hoped it would get Owens to dial it down a bit.
After the meeting, Erika posted, "Had a very productive conversation with @RealCandaceO. More to come from both of us. Looking forward to AmFest this week. Time to get back to work."
Owens also posted, "Erika and I had an extremely productive 4 1/2 hour meeting that I think we both feel should have taken place a lot earlier than it did. We agreed much more than I had anticipated. Of course, we also disagreed on various points and people as well. Most importantly, we were able to share intel and clarify intent."
Some of the theories that hurt Erika the most were the ones involving TPUSA staffers, but that was where Owens doubled down during an interview with Piers Morgan.
After explaining the motivation regarding why someone at TPUSA would want Kirk dead, Morgan asked her to clarify if she really believed that someone in that organization was “complicit in his murder.”
Owens responded, “I believe there were multiple people who, at Turning Point, who I’ve said many times, are engaged in a cover-up of what happened to Charlie on that day.”
I truly believe that Owens is damaged goods at this point. There was no conspiracy there, despite her insistence. All kinds of people were pissed off at Charlie Kirk. The alleged shooter appears to have had a personal stake, and he decided to end Charlie. Sometimes, the answer is just that simple. It’s truly sad to see Owens just go deeper into this rabbit hole, and I truly hope she finds her way back because she really is a brilliant young lady.
