Over the last two weeks, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has upped her attacks against ICE agents.
She even went so far as to say that her son had been stopped by ICE, a claim that the Department of Homeland Security refuted.
It just so happens that in the midst of all this, ICE agents found themselves surrounded while carrying out their duties in Minneapolis.
ICE and Border Protection agents have clearly been targeted by activists amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
For instance, there was just another incident in New York at JFK Airport, where an agent wound up firing his gun after he claimed he was being attacked by someone after a small fender bender.
WBCI reported, “The CBP officer told authorities that he pulled his weapon after the other driver attacked him over a minor traffic crash, Port Authority police said.”
It continued, “It wasn’t clear if the shots hit anything. The other driver fled the scene after the shooting, according to the CBP officer, who was unhurt.” It just seems to me that every time a liberal sees the words CBP or ICE on someone’s coat or vest, they get triggered these days.
After the massive fraud was exposed in Minnesota, Trump called for more immigration efforts to root out illegals and send them back home. Rep. Ilhan Omar then accused the administration of having racist intentions.
She claimed her constituents saw "blatant racial profiling" and "an egregious level of unnecessary force" by ICE agents.
Omar then claimed, "It is clear to me that this surge came in direct response to Trump's racist comments about Somali people, and about me in particular.”
The lawmaker also stated, “Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by ICE agents. Once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go.” That claim was refuted by ICE, with Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons responding, “ICE has absolutely zero record of its officers or agents pulling over Congresswoman Omar’s son. It speaks volumes that Congresswoman Omar is leveling this accusation with absolutely zero proof.”
With efforts surging in Minneapolis, I cannot help but think that the rhetoric by Omar has residents on edge, and they reacted in kind amid the uptick in efforts by ICE.
Reports surfaced this week that dozens of people had surrounded ICE agents on the streets, with Jonah Kaplan reporting, “Dozens swarm @ICEgov agents operating in South Minneapolis. Officers now ordering people off the streets in increasingly volatile situation.”
Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has gone on record saying that his city would not cooperate with ICE agents, which I am sure emboldened residents even more to be defiant to the immigration enforcement in their city.
This is getting more and more dangerous for agents. I did see a report earlier in the week that DHS was going to start to back off on some of its tactics due to negative polling for Trump on immigration. But while we will see fewer workplace raids and enforcement of that nature, these agents are still going to do their jobs in finding criminal illegals. Sadly, it now seems that “ICE” on the vest might as well be a bullseye.
