Kamala Harris appears to be hoping that the third time will be the charm.
Harris ran in 2020 and lost to Joe Biden in the primary race. Then she lost again, after she was gifted the Democrat Party nomination in 2024 after Biden abandoned his campaign.
It now appears as though Harris is reading the polls, which have her out front again, and she is gearing up for a 2028 run.
After the 2024 election was over, Harris claimed that the 107 days she had to run her campaign were not enough, even though she had a healthy lead and held it right up until two weeks before the election.
Harris tried to do the Biden routine by hiding from the media, but when she did eventually talk to the press and also stood on the debate stage with Donald Trump, she crashed and burned just like she did in 2020.
The former VP blamed the clock, though. When asked about the main factor as to why she lost, she responded, “There are many factors, I think that -- that played into the outcome of that election, but, I think probably one of the biggest in my mind is we just didn’t have enough time.”
Harris even used the number of days she spent campaigning as the title of her recent memoir about the election.
Polling has been all over the place since the November 2024 contest, but Harris was initially out in front among likely contenders.
Then all hell broke loose, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg trading off taking the lead.
All the while, however, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has surged, as he has been working social media, podcasters, and the mainstream media to raise his profile.
Newsom had a hot streak in November, regularly appearing atop polls, usually with Harris holding down second position, but the latest Big Data poll has Harris leading Newsom, 31.1-20.3, with Buttigieg well behind in third. Harris had previously trailed Newsom in two other polls taken in late November and early December.
The funny thing about Harris is that the more she stays out of the media, the better she polls, which is why I think she has surged.
Harris is now on her book tour, and reports are surfacing that she plans on adding new stops, and it sure sounds like an announcement will be coming soon.
While Harris recently shrugged off speculation, saying the election was three years away, during a speech on Friday, she stated, “Both parties have failed to hold the public’s trust. Government is viewed as fundamentally unable to meet the needs of its people…. People are done with the status quo and they’re ready to break things to force change.” She continued, “We cannot afford to be nostalgic for a flawed system that failed so many.”
To me, it sounds like she is warming everyone up for another run. She is due on Jimmy Kimmel's show next week, but I still think it is way too early for her to commit. But I am convinced that she did not run for governor of California this time around because she is hoping the third time seeking the White House will be the charm. God help this country if she wins in 2028.
