It would appear that Democrat donors are no longer interested in helping Joe Biden preserve his legacy.
The break with the former president started toward the end of his tenure when he pardoned his son, then it got progressively worse the more Biden spoke in public, as Democrats literally just wanted him to go away.
The ultimate snub for Biden is that he is struggling to get enough money together to build his presidential library, as he reportedly only has about 5% of the funds required for the project.
Democrats were already upset with Biden for blowing the 2024 election, but it got far worse once Biden decided to pardon Hunter, which he said he would never do.
After the pardon, numerous Democrats went on record to say that they were upset about the move.
For instance, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) stated, “I’m disappointed this was the decision that he landed on here.”
Crow continued, “He promised he would not do this. I think it will make it harder for us going forward when we talk about upholding democracy.”
Joe Biden attempted to make himself relevant this past spring after taking a few months off to decompress from his presidency.
Even those who were very loyal to the Bidens for years did not want to see this version of the former president out in public.
Michael LaRosa, a longtime Biden ally and the right hand of Jill Biden early in her husband's term, stated, “I love both Bidens dearly, but staff loyalty means there is a responsibility to provide them with an honest situational awareness, especially when it comes to their public image, no matter how hurtful it is to hear.”
He later added, “Biden’s reemergence, while it changed very little in the news cycle, provided a detour for [Trump] to distract his cadre of supporters with Biden taunts and blame, giving Fox News nearly 48 hours of fresh new programming, taking editorial aim at the former president instead of the current one.”
Biden’s library foundation estimated that it would need about $200 million to complete the project, but they have only received pledges for a little more than $11 million thus far.
The New York Times reported, "Still, Mr. Biden’s foundation told the I.R.S. this year that it expected to bring in just $11.3 million, total, by the end of 2027. That would be far below the pace set by other recent presidents, and far less than the $200 million that Mr. Biden’s aides say they want to raise eventually.”
The report found that a lot of donors had yet to be contacted, but even many of them said that if they were, their money would go to fight Trump, not help Biden erect his library. Joe Morgan, a longtime Democrat donor, stated he would not donate “a penny,” adding, "The Biden staff, they ruined any type of good library for him. He’ll be lucky to have a bookmobile."
It just seems like a fitting end to a presidency that most of us would consider a complete and utter disaster. This library is going down in flames just like Biden's presidency did.
