A video made by Congressional Democrats telling troops to defy orders has taken on a whole new life after a second drug boat strike conducted on Sept. 2 was revealed.
The FBI was hoping to get the Democrats who participated in the creation of the video to voluntarily sit down for a chat, but that is apparently unlikely to happen.
At least one of the lawmakers in question has already declined the request, stating that he will not talk to the FBI.
After the video came out, Donald Trump and other administration officials went ballistic on the Democrats who were featured in it.
At the time, one of Trump’s own social media posts stated, “Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???”
Someone responded to Trump’s post by saying, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD!!,” a comment that the president reposted. And in this day and age, especially for a Republican, that is as good as posting it yourself.
To that point, the group of Democrat legislators responded, “What's most telling is that the President considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law. Every American must unite and condemn the President's call for our murder and political violence.”
In previous reports, I stated that Democrats intentionally baited Trump with that video, and he clearly bit, which gave them the ammunition to use against him going forward.
Then the FBI got involved, stating that it would seek interviews with the six members of Congress who appeared in the video and who were accused of “seditious behavior” by Trump.
All this did was give the Democrats even more ammunition, with four of them responding to the request by saying, “No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring our Constitution.”
Their statement continued, “We swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. We will not be bullied. We will never give up the ship.”
Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) is getting all the mileage he can out of this. I would wager most Americans had no idea who he was before that video was released, but now he is on the nightly news just about every night.
During a recent media appearance, he remained defiant about the FBI's requests, and there have been several of them, adding, “Listen, I’m not going to be threatened. I’m not going to be intimidated. Let’s be clear about what this is. There is no basis in law and fact for their investigation. Donald Trump is weaponizing the Federal Bureau of Investigation and pulling it away from counterterrorism operations, pulling it away from focusing on elder fraud, from focusing on organized crime, all the important things he is instead using it to attack his political opponents, me and others, which should upset every American, not just for what it is, but for what it’s not doing because of the detours and the distractions that Donald Trump is having its focus on.”
He continued, “I’m not going to be threatened. I’m not going to back away from this. And no, we are going to treat this for exactly what it is, an attempt to threaten and intimidate members of Congress who are doing their job and who are upholding the law. and I am sure as hell not going to back away from that.”
I agree that Trump should be mad about what these lawmakers did. And while I would love to see every one of these members of Congress held responsible, they were very crafty in the wording used, so there will never be any real charges that would stick. If I were Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel, I would just let that video die out and move on, especially with all the scrutiny that is now being paid to that second boat strike on Sept. 2.
