The media is ripping Donald Trump apart in the wake of his FIFA Peace Prize, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom is piling on, as he continues to try to position himself for a run at the White House in 2028.
Newsom mocks Trump, yet just about every strategy he has for 2028, he has stolen from the president!
Today’s “thought” centered around the desire to succeed to create a better life, rather than giving up your freedoms for the nanny state, as so many liberals seem prepared to do these days. Our reader’s comment on the subject comes from Phillip P. from my home state of Texas, who responded:
“Seneca nailed it. The problem isn't that the American Dream is too hard to achieve; it's that we have stopped teaching our children to be brave enough to chase it. When you raise a generation on participation trophies, you teach them that showing up is enough and that the reward is guaranteed."
“That mindset is exactly what leads people to the ‘nanny state’ -- they want the government to act like the referee who ensures everyone gets a prize regardless of effort. We need to remind people that the struggle isn't something to avoid; it's the very thing that gives success its value.”
I agree, Phillip. I think the goal is always to get better with every generation. My father worked three jobs to create a better life for his children, and he raised a hospitality executive turned political writer, a chef, a nurse, a police officer, and a grocery store executive. The next generation has already proven they can be more successful than we are, simply by adopting the work ethic that was instilled by my father and handed down to those who came after him.
