The big $1 billion fraud scandal in Minnesota has Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) facing some very tough questions because the criminality, it has emerged, was centralized in nature, with much of it occurring within her own community.
Donald Trump has attacked the congresswoman over the scandal, and even the mainstream media is wondering what she did and did not know about the fraud that has been revealed.
So now, Omar is trying to deflect blame as much as possible, attacking Trump officials and even saying that Somali immigrants are the victims here.
Omar was doing the media circuit this weekend, hoping to flip the narrative that her community is filled with nothing but scam artists looking to take advantage of the system.
First, she took aim at Stephen Miller, a top Trump adviser who is Jewish, but who is also constantly labeled as a Nazi by Democrats.
Omar stated, “When I think about Stephen Miller and his white supremacist rhetoric, it reminds me of the way the Nazis described Jewish people in Germany.”
She later added, “It’s also really important for us to remember that this kind of hateful rhetoric and this level of dehumanizing can lead to dangerous actions by people who listen to the president.”
Her next attempt at deflection was actually humorous to me because it was the pot calling the kettle black.
She stated, “And we feel like there is an unhealthy obsession that he has on the Somali community, and an unhealthy and creepy obsession that he has with me."
This is coming from a woman who constantly makes anti-Trump statements in the media.
I think Omar has it backward… she is the one who sets off stalker alerts.
Next comes gaslighting as we have never seen it before. In defending Somalis in Minnesota regarding the fraud scheme, Omar declared, "I want to say this also has an impact on Somalis, because we are also taxpayers in Minnesota. We also could have benefited from the program and the money that was stolen.”
She continued, “So it's been really frustrating for people to not acknowledge the fact that we're also, as Minnesotans, as taxpayers, really upset and angry about the fraud that has occurred."
This was her own community ripping off her own people, so there is no empathy here. Even more damning, she and Gov. Tim Walz have been pictured with some of the fraudsters, so, using the Democrats' own standard whereby a photo alone has the power to implicate someone (see the associations made between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein due to a couple of decades-old snapshots), she surely had to know what was going on, right?
If Omar could not see or even suspect that there was fraud running rampant in a program she initiated legislatively, well, that is a failure of epic proportions. So, no, I am not buying the claim that her community is the victim here. Omar would have fared far better to simply call out the fraudsters and vow to hold them accountable rather than playing the victim card and slinging mud.
