California Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to position himself as the favorite in the 2028 presidential election for the Democrats.
He has been slamming Trump, imitating him, responding to the new Texas congressional district maps, and grabbing every interview he can to propel himself to the top of the heap.
But Newsom's efforts were just set back a bit by none other than actress Halle Berry, who just obliterated the governor over a policy disagreement during the New York Times' Dealbook summit.
I would wager that most people reading this report right now previously thought that if Joe Biden dropped out in 2024, Newsom was the Democrat most likely to run in his place.
Newsom was all over the place at the time, positioning himself just in case Joe faltered, even issuing gushing statements about the then-president to gain his favor and portray himself in a non-threatening light.
At the time, a leading California Democrat fundraiser put the cherry on top of the sundae on this one, stating, “No ifs, ands, or buts. He will run if Biden does not.”
Then Biden dropped out of the race and immediately endorsed Harris, so if Newsom thought he was going to win some baby primary, his hopes and dreams were swiftly dashed.
Newsom had been coy about this, but you would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to realize what he has been up to.
He has been traveling all over the country to push back against the GOP and Trump, working to grab every podcast appearance and interview on the planet.
Several weeks ago, he finally admitted what we have all known for five years… that he was likely to run in the next election.
When asked directly, he responded, “Yeah. I’d just be lying, and I can’t do that.” The funny thing is, he was blatantly dishonest about a half-dozen other times during the interview.
Berry was appearing at the Dealbook Summit on Wednesday when she gave her anti-endorsement of Newsom.
She told the crowd, "At this stage in my life, I have zero f---- left to give. Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row."
Berry continued, "But that’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either. Just saying."
If I were running the RNC, I would be looking to do whatever it takes to get her in our corner right now. She doesn’t have to be a conservative or even like our candidate, just as long as we can pay her to speak out against Newsom.
