Reader Comment of the Day
Today’s “thought” used a James Madison quote about lying and power, and I had asked our readers why it always seems that elected officials tell people what they want to hear rather than the actual truth.
Today’s comment comes from Patrick S. out of Arkansas, who responded:
“Madison’s warning is the bedrock of our Republic, yet we’ve allowed a professional political class to treat the truth as an optional accessory. These politicians lie because they think we are too distracted to notice the massive gap between their campaign promises and their actual votes in the swamp. This is exactly why we don't need "leaders" to guide us; we need our elected representation to actually fear the taxpayers they serve.
“The establishment thrives on a culture of blind trust, but that era is over. We have to stop hoping for a politician with a conscience and start delivering a decisive, offensive victory against the entire culture of corruption. That means primarying every representative who prioritizes the interests of the administrative state over the will of the people. Accountability isn't a suggestion—it's the only way to ensure the government remains a servant and not a master.”
